MASTERS MESSAGE & APPEAL

October ’17

Hello Brothers….  Hopefully many of you are reading this on our newly developed web page!!  A special thanks to Brother Robert McLoughlin for his hard work and efforts in formulating this site, thus greatly improving communications and spreading the word on Lodge happenings within our great Fraternity.  Many Brothers also follow Lodge events on Facebook, with Past Master Damien King doing a great job with postings.

As we begin fall, we have a full agenda planned and tracking well with our published Trestle Board. We had a fantastic August picnic and many of us just concluded a return visit to King Hiram’s Lodge in Provincetown, Ma. organized by our Senior Warden, Mike Peters.  The delegation was led by our own Brother, R:.W:. Nicholas J. Paolicelli (Junior Grand Warden) and included DDGM’s R:.W:.William Howell & R:.W:. Michael Grenadier.  We were graciously greeted by their DDGM R:.W:. William Benoit and Worshipful Master W:. Myles Mackay and Past Master W:. Randy Chow.  In Lodge, we observed their Installation and viewed the many artifacts and Lodge Jewels hand-crafted by Brother Paul Revere.  A great experience, with plans being discussed for another visit.

At a recent meeting we balloted and accepted the petitions of 4 new candidates, one retired Army NCO, a USMA cadet and two Army National Guardsmen.  An EA degree is planned for Thursday, 16 November, with our Senior Warden presiding in the East.  After much discussion, we also made decisions on Lodge dues and initiation fees.  It was unanimously agreed to increase petitioner initiation fees from $250 to $400 and raise Lodge dues from $75 plus the per capita tax assessed by Grand Lodge to $125 plus the per capita fee.  This increase will go into effect for 2018, with dues notices being mailed out in November.  We are confident that these increases will better prepare our Lodge financially for the future.

As noted in my last communication, it is our intention not to lose any Brethren due to the dues increase.  If this creates a hardship, I am asking those Brothers that cannot afford the increase to pay what they can and inform our Secretary of your situation and we will establish our own “Brotherhood Fund” within the Lodge to help those in need….  “Charity begins at Home!!”

In regards to finances, we continue to struggle with rental income and dues collections.  Building maintenance, upkeep, taxes and expenses never seem to decrease, but continually rise, making it a challenge for our Trustees to make necessary repairs and still “keep the lights on.”  As always, donations to our Building Fund are greatly appreciated!!  If within your means, an additional donation with your dues payment would be most helpful.

Upcoming events to highlight include our Highland Falls Fall Foliage Festival on Saturday, 28 Oct.  We will be setting up a Masonic ID booth.  Brothers will meet at the Lodge at 0800 and the event begins at 0900.  The  District is organizing a day trip to Utica on Saturday, 2 December.  Plans are to visit our Masonic Care Community.  Additionally, we have a festive board and “Brother Bring a Friend Night” planned for Thursday, 21 December.  As we did last year for the first time, it will be structured in the format of a Military Dining In for much fun and levity.

For your “long range plans,” the Orange-Rockland-Sullivan District dinner dance is planned for Saturday, 14 April at Mt. Fuji’s in Rockland County and our Grand Lecturers Convention is Thursday 19 April at Naurashank Lodge in Pearl River.

Finally, I wish to thank Brother Mike Peters who acquired curtains for our Lodge at no cost, along with Brother Damian Shepard and his wife who then volunteered to cut and hem them.  And special thanks to Treasurer Damien King for working with the IRS to correct our income tax classification and status.  Also, best wishes to Past Master Roger Reynolds who is recuperating in the Campbell Hall Nursing Home.  Our thoughts & prayers are with him.

Thanks as always, for your continued support.

So Mote it be!!!

W:. Jack H. Moore
Worshipful Master
